Pomegranate, Redmond Wa

I like the Pomegranate Bistro in Redmond, Wa. I had always driven by for a long time before Natalie took me there for my birthday one year.

I don't know these people, but when I took the photo the little girl was laughing at me.

It's warm, nicely lit and has good food. Most of the food incorporates pomegranates somehow, and they have homemade bread. You also have a view of the cooks and some kind of industrial complex, where it looks like they either make beer or nuclear missiles.

For starters we had flat breads, and a warm mushroom salad. They were great, the salad was just about pure warmed mushrooms with toasted bread, and was wonderful. The breads were flat and cooked in a fire oven and were fun to eat alone or with the mushrooms.

For entrees, I had a roasted chicken and Natalie had pork chops. The roasted chicken had a mustard sauce, and my favorite part: little crispy fried sage leaves. I have never had something like that and they were great! I just wish there were more of them on the plate.

Natalie's pork chops had a pomegranate glaze, and were tender and flavorful.

For dessert we had pomegranate sorbet.

If you come to town we should go, it's pretty close to my house.

pizza!

So I've been craving some homemade pizza lately, and tonight I finally got around to making it. I tried out this really good dough recipe which probably would have risen better if my pizza didn't have so many toppings. oops...

Plus, I always put alot of sauce on my pizzas. The sauce I made was basically onions, garlic, and bell peppers sauteed, then tomato sauce is added and spices until it tastes good. Very scientific indeed...

On my pizza, I put spinich, mushrooms, olives and fresh basil, diced tomatoes, and feta cheese after it was baked. On Peter's pizza it was pepperoni, salami, mozzarella, mushrooms, olives and parmesan cheese. Peter needs around 3 million calories a day when he's weight lifting so I basically add meat and cheese to his portion of anything I cook.

Here is my pizza before the oven!

And here is Peter's pizza after the oven!

All in all, it was delicious beyond my wildest imagination! Here is the pizza dough recipe I used.

Pizza Dough

INGREDIENTS
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
2 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons white sugar

Basically you dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it stand for 10-20 min. Then mix everything together and let it rise to double in size. Then you roll out, put on your toppings and throw it in the oven! The recipe I saw said to let the pizza bake for 20 min, but I just left it in there until the crust looked good.

Seattle Hamburger Project: Lunchbox Laboratory, Seattle Wa

This summer I compiled a list of what are supposed to be the best hamburgers in the Seattle area, and I am doing my best to try them all. Here is a notable entry.

I know this has been brought up on facebook, but here are photos from one of my new favorite hamburger places in Seattle: Lunchbox Laboratory! They are in a little rundown shack with a few tables outside and a big line! Everyday it seems they have new and unique hamburger combinations to try, living up to their "Laboratory" name.

In the photos above you can see Natalie and Stefan have burgers with "Dork" patties (Duck and Pork mix) with pineapple and grilled onions. Mine was a lamb patty with olive cheese. The close up shot is of Noël's beef and truffle burger. The hamburgers may look greasy and disgusting, but they are very very delicious. I don't think I would ever recommend eating them on a regular basis, as you would probably have a heart attack within a month, but for special occasions, it is a great time, and a hamburger you must experience!

Next time you are in Seattle check them out! They are near the Woodland Zoo, so it makes a good zoo lunch break.
